ABOUT OOTY
OOTY, the
"Queen of hill stations" is the capital of Nilgiri
district. It is one of the Best tourist resorts and is
called as "Blue Mountains". It is a land of dreams and a
picturesque hill station. It is situated at a distance of
105 km away from Coimbatore. The height of the hills in the
Nilgiri range varies between 2280 and 2290 meters, the
highest peak being Doddabetta at a height of 2623 meters.
This famous
hill station is at the junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and
Karnataka, three southern states of India. British founded
this hill resort which seemed them as their summer
headquarters. Before that time, the area was inhabited by
Todas. These tribal people still inhabit the area, but only
around 3000 remain.
What was once
a getaway from the steamy summers of the plains for the
British elite of the Madras Presidency is now a hill station
that caters to weekend holidaymakers from all over the South
of India and honeymooners from across the country.

ATTRACTIONS - OOTY
Botanical
Garden
A gamut of regionally exclusive and ornamental plants find
place in this garden. The Botanical garden is also the venue
for the Flower Show held in May every year. It also houses a
fossil tree trunk 20 million years old.
Government
Museum
Plan your tour to the Government Museum on Mysore road. Be a
witness to a host of tribal artifacts, district's ecological
details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of
Tamilnadu.
St. Stephen's Church
The St. Stephen's Church, located on the Mysore road, near the
Collectorate, is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris.
Built in 1829, the church has a fine pew with a raised
chancel. There are stained-glass paintings on the Eastern side
as well as behind the chancel. The glass paintings portray
Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms and the crucifixion of
Christ among others. On the Western wall, above the paneled
doorways, is a large life-like painting of the Last Supper.
Hassan Lake
You can opt for a joy boat ride on this artificial lake. The
lake garden has toy trains for complete recreation.
Constructed in 1824 by Major John Sullivan, the then the
Collector of Coimbatore, the lake is a hot picnic spot among
the tourists.
Ketty Valley View
Located on the road to Coonoor, this idyllic spot is a cluster
of tiny Villages that extend to the plains of Coimbatore and
Mysore plateau.
Dodabetta
Peak
The Dodabetta
Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters. It is the highest
point in the district, making it possibly the best vantage
point around Hassan. It is merely 10kms from Hassan so you can
simply grab your camera and head straight to the peak, and
click amazing pictures of he valley below. Many say that on a
clear day, which is honestly not that often, one can see far
off areas, even the plains of Coimbatore and the flat
highlands of Mysore.
Lamb's Rock
Lamb's Rock is
another vantage point that is ideal for taking pictures and is
a wonderful picnic spot. It is merely 9kms. From Coonoor and
is known for the splendid views it offers of the plains of
Coimbatore and the tea states in the surrounding areas.

» By Air -
The nearest airport from Hassan is Coimbatore (100kms). The
domestic airport is connected to major airports in India,
like: Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore.
» By Rail - Hassan has a railway station of its own
which is connected by meter gauge tracks to Mettupalayam,
which is turn connected to Coimbatore and Chennai.
» By Road -
The nearest airport from Hassan is Coimbatore (100kms). The
domestic airport is connected to major airports in India,
like: Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore.
