ABOUT MANDAWA CITY

Mandawa lies in the heart of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, India and is basically a municipal town of the Jhunjhunu district. Mandawa is also known as Rajasthan's 'open art gallery', as the entire region is adorned with artistically painted havelis, mansions and homes. This community of wealthy businessmen and traders constructed many havelis and baolis with colored paintings adorning their walls. In the late 18th century, the traders started leaving this place and created business empires in other parts of the country, but returned to Mandawa to build palatial mansions in their hometownSome of the popular havelis that have become important tourist destinations are the Ladia haveli, the Chokhan haveli, the Binsidhar haveli, the Gulab Rai haveli and the Newatia haveli. 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AND PLACES - MANDAWA CITY

The Tourist Attractions in Mandawa are all about these beautiful forts and Havelis.

» Mandawa Palace

Just outside the gateway of the City Palace is Jantar Mantar, the Yantralaya of Sawai Jai Singh II, the last great classical astronomer in India. The modernistic structures known as Yantras are the unique creations of this astronomer-king designed by him and built by experts to observe the movements of sun, moon, planets and the stars. This is the largest of five observatories founded by him in various parts of the country.

» Govind Devji Temple

In the central pavilion of the sprawling Jai Niwas Garden to the north of the Chandra Mahal is the spire less temple of Lord Krishna. The image in the form of Govinda Deva, originally installed in a temple of Vrindavan, was reinstalled here by Sawai Jai Singh II as his family deity. This is the most famous and popular temple in the Pink City attracting devotees from allover the country.

HOW TO REACH MANDAWA

» Air : Jaipur is the nearest airport from Mandawa and is about 168 Km away. You can reach Jaipur from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Udaipur. Buses and taxis for Mandawa are easily available from Jaipur.


» Rail : Jhunjhunu is the nearest railhead from Mandawa. The station is linked to major cities like, Delhi, Bikaner and Jaipur.

» Road : A network of roads connects Mandawa with other parts of Rajasthan and North India. You may reach Mandawa from Delhi, Jaipur and Bikaner.
